1000 year old foundations exposed

At Hildesheim Cathedral about 1000 years old walls of a cathedral were exposed. Apparently the building is in the 11th Century were abandoned. At present, the Cathedral is being renovated.

Archaeologists at the Hildesheim Cathedral encountered around 1000 years old foundations of a large cathedral. The remains of the wall located between the west front of the cathedral and the Episcopal Vicar General, said a diocese spokesman said on Wednesday. Bishop Azelin 1046 planned to have a huge new building after large parts of the cathedral had been destroyed by fire. Due to massive construction defects of the building of the cathedral had been given up by Bishop Hezilo, successor Azelins. He had erected the cathedral the old place again.

  1. It's always such a shame things like this don't get very well preserved. Bet it would've looked great after some touching up.
